first night in cairo

I spent much of today walking around Cairo after arriving around 2 AM this morning. The city is actually safe, and I've been told that, but it's extremely crowded and chaotic. There are stray cats everywhere, but I'm a cat person! A few bodegas like in NYC or Europe. But the signs are mostly in Arabic and the buses and trains I haven't mastered yet. I'm staying in a budget hotel now but will be staying in a hostel for the next few nights.
I haven't been hassled by the men, except for a few minor incidents. The worst was one guy walking next to me asking me my name, but he finally went away. For the most part people approach me trying to sell me stuff or either benevolently, asking if I'm lost. There are many overpriced tour packages here so I'm on my own to get to the pyramids the best way. Also, I want to see Zagazig and Tel Basta but it's hard to find info on how to get there; it's not a big tourist destination.
Living out of a suitcase is tiring, and I have to worry about money. I took a lot for granted, and I'm relishing the day when I have my apartment back.
